Top 5 Beer Experiences in 2021

2021

  1. This is based more on the atmosphere and circumstances around the consumption of the beer rather than the actual taste of the beer.  Though bad beers are unlikely to make this list.
  2. The beer must be drank at a bar, restaurant, or brewery and not at a home or apartment. I might make a separate list for that.  Rule still not valid during a pandemic
  3. This is my list and it’s subjective
  4. Remember rule #3

So, with that in mind, here are my favorite beer experiences of 2021:

1. Treehouse Brewing, Charlton, MA – September

I drove from Boston to Richmond, VA with a high school buddy of mine and we hit the best breweries along the route, including Trillium, Tired Hands, the Other Half, and The Answer.  But, the highlight was clearly Treehouse Brewing. It’s literally the Disneyland of breweries as you go through a theme park style entrance and the grounds are as large as any brewery I’ve been to.   I had the Doubleganger IPA (top of my all time IPA list) and the Oreo Hold on to Sunshine (near the top of my all time stout list).

2. Bermondsey Beer Mile, London – November

We were in London for an 8 night family vacation over Thanksgiving (right before Omicron hit the news), and on our last full day there, I declared it a YOYO day.  That’s you’re on your own.  So I got to escape down to the Bermondsey Beer Mile and brewery hop for about 5 hours.  It’s an amazing place for beer and an amazing place to escape the tourist traps and the tourists that flock to them.

3. Bissel Brothers Brewing, Portland, ME – September

We spent our 20th anniversary in Portland, Maine for a quick city break.  Had amazing beers and food all weekend, but the highlight was riding our bikes out to Bissell Brothers Brewing whose beers are just next level compared to the rest.

4. Ology, Tallahassee, FL – July

Visited college friends now living in Tallahassee and got to do a mini-beer tour of the town.  We hit Proof Brewing, DEEP Brewing, and Ology which has become one of my favorite breweries in Florida.  There’s nothing like drinking great beers in new breweries with told friends.

5. Flathead Lake, MT – June

Camping and beers go together like peanut butter and jelly.  My 14 year old son and I spent a week out camping at Flathead Lake and Glacier National Park.  When the camping is in Montana, you know it’s going to be next level and luckily the beers met that challenge.  Glacier Brewing’s Cow in a Coal Mine was my personal favorite.
