Travel Stats

I stole this from Travis Sherry at Extra Pack of Peanuts  podcast.  At the end of every year, he likes to track how many nights he traveled, how many countries visited, and how many miles traveled by air, land, road, or sea.  I didn’t think I cared enough to do it until I started and then I couldn’t stop.  Even went back to a prior year so that I could compare.  You have to be a true numbers nerd to enjoy this exercise.  I’m an accountant, so I’m good on that front.  I’m sharing it because I might as well since it takes a lot of time to add up.

A few rules:

  1. Places been is any place that’s a new state or country where I spent a night that year.  Going to the same state twice in the same year only counts once.  Passing through a state doesn’t count.
  2. All flights taken in the same day are counted as one flight.  Return flights count separately.
  3. Road, train, boat, and bike trips only count if they are to an overnight destination.  Day trips do not count.
  4. Breweries only count if I’ve never visited the location before.  Beer must be produced on the location it’s consumed to count.
  5. I don’t keep track of my total beers drunk.  That wouldn’t be good for anybody.

Now that you know the rules, here’s my activity for the year:
